In 2024, Google decided to do something about the crazy amounts of spam, phishing emails, and fraud email we receive. I don't know about you, but I receive a record number of them. I am excited about this new policy and what it will do to cut down on the floods of spoofing emails. Although, it forced me to take my forever gmail account email address to an official custom domain one. I held out for years on this because I didn't find the necessity to. Now, that's changing.
Their newest policy requiring custom email domains for bulk email and promotional marketing email sending will go in full effect by February 1st.
DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance: It lets you tell receiving servers what to do with outgoing messages from your organization that don’t pass SPF or DKIM.
SPF is Senders Policy Framework: Specifies the servers and domains that are authorized to send email on behalf of your organization.
DKIM stands for DomainKeys Identified Mail: Adds a digital signature to every outgoing message, which lets receiving servers verify the message actually came from your organization.
Spoofing is where a hacker or cybercriminal is trying to impersonate a business, organization, or person.
DMARC policy changes such as these will help you identify malicious activity or authentication problems for messages sending from your domain through daily reports that will come to your email.
They will create a signature on your sent messages to verify they are authentically from you and your domain rather than a forgery. Anything not from you or any attempts to create a spoofed or forged "From" address will be flagged with a report of warning sent to you. This change brings a strong sense of safety and fights the criminals!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED AND HOW I CAN HELP!
In order to comply with this new policy so you can continue to send emails out in bulk for promotional and marketing to your clients, customers, and readers without issues or interruptions, there are steps you will need to do.
If you do not have a custom email domain and are still using @yahoodotcom or @gmaildotcom, you will need first your own custom email domain such as the one I have set up: support@theladygadget.com.
You will need a DMARC policy record setup between your new custom domain server settings and your domain record settings. This is unique to each account and email platform.
If you're working with a CRM (Client/Customer Relationship Management) System, you will need your new custom domain set up with your backoffice. (Larger CRMs including automation set ups will be a higher investment for businesses.)
Most businesses already have a custom email domain set up and will just need the policy set up done.
For those of you who never had one, I did research and found the market is monopolized on what companies are providing this. Mailchimp is a popular one, but pricey. Mailerlite offers 1,000 subscribers @ 12,000 free send outs a month. I thought I could use Zoho mail, but their business custom email domain is only for internal organization email communication.
Another alternative is Google's GSuite Workplace which can also be abit complicated, but integrates with third party services for a custom email domain.
Sender offers on their free plan a generous 15,000 emails a month and 2,500 subscribers.
EmailOctopus which I've used in the past allows 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 email sends monthly.
If doing this change is not your forte or you do not have the time and would like assistance, I am offering this done for you service. You will want to submit a ticket right away for us to beat the deadline of February 1st. I will continue to do these afterwards as well as it will take time to get to everyone.
